Germany, my first home and native land is 'celebrating' its unconditional surrender to the Allies today
I was going to write about the way extremism and the people who exploit true believers by aping them for their own nefarious purposes ruins societies and always has. It was even worse under the Tudors in England when Henry the 8th used the schism in the Church to his own advantage. That’s a fascinating tale and I will return to it another time. More pertinently, today is an important historical date that many, including me, have long forgotten or never even heard about.
On May 8, 79 years ago, the Germans handed over an unconditional surrender to the victorious Allies, so naturally, they had to make it into something celebrating ‘liberation from Nazism’. Victory Day. And if you dare to dissent and not celebrate this event as the co-chair of the AFD Alice Weidel did, you are a truly terrible person and will cause yet another shitstorm of moral outrage on Twitter and whatever. Except for this: Either the Germans are victims of Nazism themselves, and thus were ‘liberated’ from that scourge along with their former enemies. Or, they were active and willing participants in the Nazi dystopia, in which case, they were defeated and have nothing to celebrate. As the brilliant Eugyppius, the contemporary analyst of all things German on Substack commented in the post linked below: you can’t have it both ways.
Tell that to the German Government or for that matter, the entire English speaking world. They have pretty well swallowed the ‘all Germans are guilty and should continue paying reparations and feeling bad about their history forever’ version of events. Even as a child I was aware that being German was to be damned and that is one the primary drivers behind adopting my new homeland, Canada, with such fervour. I wanted nothing to do with that burden of guilt. I still don’t. I was a baby at the time so I didn’t do it, your honour.
But everyone has bought into the self hatred and guilt trope and so, the German Nation is once again ‘celebrating’ its own defeat yea these many decades later. It is a form of unacknowledged insanity. But don’t bother reading me; I urge you to click on the Eugyppius link and ingest and muse on what he has to say. It is, as always, brilliant with a huge B.
Enjoy. There are very few writers out there with his grasp of the German situation and its convoluted roots in history.
Ha, the very political concept of 'Germany' ceased to exist as of May 8, 1945, and was further cemented when Konrad Adenauer decided to eschew neutrality in the mid-1950's and become the official lapdog of the US empire. Not to mention Kohl's so-called 'reunification' after the collapse of the DDR, when the millions of Germans who were ethnically cleansed as part of the redrawing of the map of Europe were not even given a token consultation as their 'right of return' was permanently taken away by cynical globalists. It's no wonder that the 'Germans' are the most ardent purveyors of self-loathing on the planet.
