Sun Dance
I come to praise the eclipse/a cosmic cosplay
in some places but much ado about nothing here
Simply a reminder of our brief moment/ in the Sun
We may witness heavenly bodies prancing/while we are dancing
We are forbidden to gaze directly at
The small moon/blocking out the great sun/for they are Gods
transporting us into a trance/fixed at something beyond our grasp
something we cannot control
But we can dance/we can surely dance/Until that final gasp
As a metaphor/for the private agony
Of the human heart/it is potent
Everyone has had their heart broken
We suffer from a total eclipse of the heart/When love tears us apart
Cosmic events are just a token/Of our own portent/of the inevitable end
Without the eclipse/we would not understand/Who we are in love
Nor where we belong/among the eternal throng of stars
So I have come in praise of the fiery one
That teaches us about heavenly bodies and love
while we’re dancing and sometimes glancing/ sideways towards the sun
